The world is a truly funny place, and by funny I mean complex, and by complex I mean confusing and by confusing I mean insane. You see the world looks down on you for being poor but envies you for being rich, the world shuns you out for not doing well in studies but won’t hire you if you have a 4.0 CGPA, the world misuses you for being too nice and despises you for being too tough, the world makes fun of you for being too tall or too short, too pretty/handsome or too ugly, too loud or too quite, too manly or too soft, too girly or too boyish, too skinny or too fat, too religious or too secular, too simple or too over the top… which is where am going with this paragraph so I hope you get the point!
Now there is a lot to take from that, mainly what it shows is that it is absolutely impossible to please everybody. Absolutely Impossible!! The evidence of that is even prophets have failed at achieving such a feat. It’s just not possible to be on everybody’s good side. That’s a forgone conclusion.
So it’s mightily important to find the balance (moderation) between people’s approval and your self satisfaction. Meaning to say that you can’t be too influenced by what others say and you can’t be too heedless to it either. And what’s equally important is striking a balance in your expectation of others.
The other thing you can take from that is that the entire world is rooted in moderation. Moderate people rule, hence moderate seems normal, so therefore everything else is not normal. The trick however is to be good at being moderate. Sound a bit insane right? I told you didn’t I. And that right there is probably everyone’s everyday struggle I assume. You know the struggle to do well without being called a show off, the struggle to be nice but not be judged for having ulterior motives, the struggle to be compromising but not be seen as weak, the struggle to love but not be taken for granted and so on.
To finish this off I’d like to leave you with a quote from one of my all time favorite TV shows ‘Scrubs’ with the hope that it may get you thinking about why people do the things that they do.
“… I guess it’s because we all want to believe that what we do is very important, that people hang on to our every word, that they care what we think. The truth is you should consider yourself lucky if you even occasionally get to make someone – anyone – feel a bit better” J.D
o and “… people are bastard-coated bastards with bastard filling” Bob Kelso Haha! jk.
